Located in the mountainous portion of this Ojibway Reservation, the CDP (Census Designated Place) of Azure, is the sixth largest settlement of this Ojibway Reservation. Latest population count has Azure having a population of 253. There are over 60 housing units in the settlement, which means the average housing unit size at Azure, is slightly over four persons per housing unit. The elevation of Azure is 3,490 feet above sea level. The high elevation means the settlement has cooler summers than the lower elevations on the plains. West of Azure are the plains. To it's east, north and south are mountains. Azure probably has windy winters since it's open to the plains. I'm referring to Chinook Winds. FIPS code is 30-03212. The Azure CDP covers 4.5 sq. mi. About 32% of the settlements population lives below the poverty line, which means the location has a job flow. Indians make up 95% of the settlements population. Whites make up 2% of the population. There is a sharp contrast in scenery between Azure and the other CDP'S which are located in the Reservations mountains, to the secenery of the plains. From the treeless plains, Azure and the other settlements located in the nearby Bear Paw Mountains, have many a tree which paints a beautiful scenery. Azure is more like a small town than a rural settlement. There is one location where the majority of the housing units are located. Around 40 housing units are situated there. Below is a google earth satellite image of Azure, Montana.
