It is a tiny settlement located just west of Big Lake which is a rather large Leech Lake Reservation lake covering nearly 5.0 sq. mi. This settlement does not have a name. I thought i name it after a lake it is located near. Big Lake or in Ojibway Ga-mi-chi, has about 7 housing units. All except two are mobile homes. Housing units are located along Punky Road Northeast. It is located within Ten Lake Township, Beltrami County, Minnesota which has a population of 1,026 according to a 2010 census. Indians make up 63.2% of it's population or 648. It's 69.9% when including Mexicans and mixed bloods. Big Lake may have a population of 10 to 20. Using google earths historical imagery, Big Lake does not show up until around 2004. It's a newer Leech Lake Reservation community. Elevation is 1,363 feet above sea level. This tiny settlement is located in a midst of a forest. Being located in them woods probably leads to some residents being weary of strangers. Below are a couple of google earth photos of Big Lake, Minnesota and to other Leech Lake Reservation communities.
