Big Lake, Leech Lake Reservation
It is a tiny settlement located just west of Big Lake which is a rather large Leech Lake Reservation lake covering nearly 5.0 sq. mi. The settlement does not have a name. I thought i name it after the lake it is located near. Big Lake has about 7 housing units. All except two are mobile homes. The housing units are located along Punky Road Northeast. It is located within Ten Lake Township which has a population of 1,026 according to the 2010 census. Indians make up 62% of the population but 64% when including Mexicans and mixed bloods. Big Lake may have a population of 20 to 35. Using google earths historical imagery, Big Lake does not show up until around 2004. It's a newer Leech Lake Reservation community. Elevation is 1,363 feet above sea level. The tiny settlement is located in the midst of a forest. Being located in the woods probably leads to the residents being weary of strangers. Below is a couple of google earth photos of Big Lake, Minnesota.
