Big Sandy Rancheria


It is one of the many communities of the Black Hills Indian Reservation. Big Sandy is located in the western portion of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is 30 miles northeast of Fresno. Cold Springs is 11 miles to the southeast. According to the 2000 census, the population of Big Sandy is 98. Indians account for 77 of the population of Big Sandy. Mexicans account for 15 of the population. There are 31 housing units at Big Sandy. The average household size is 3.4 persons per housing unit. However, using google earth i counted around 50 or so housing units at Big Sandy. The population of Big Sandy is probably closer to 150. Elevation is 2,522 feet above sea level. Big Sandy Rancheria is located within land cession number 279. It is linked to the Reservation set aside from land cession number 279. The Reservation numbers are 275, 276, 277, and 278.
