Rocky Boy Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana

Clarice, Flathead Reservation

It is a settlement on the Flathead Reservation which is about 1 mile west of East Ronan and about 1 mile to the southeast of Ronan. It is not a recognized settlement on the Reservation but like East Ronan is a location where numerous housing units are located. Like East Ronan it has no official name. I named it Clarice after Clarice Paul who was a part of the hunting party hunting in the Swan Valley in 1908, when a Montana game warden and his deputy stormed their hunting camp and killed 4 Indians. The game warden was killed by Clarice Paul. Her husband Little Camille Paul, was shot and killed before Clarice shot and killed the game warden. Clarice is situated a little east of a small lake. One of the streets is named Clarice Paul. The settlement covers about 0.75 sq. mi. Using google earth i counted what appears to be between 35 and 40 housing units. The population of Clarice may be between 100 and 150. The settlement is on the fringe of the forest which still covers parts of the valley. Below are a few pictures of Clarice, Flathead Reservation.
