Ice Cracking Lake, Minnesota

It is located just south of Round Lake and seven miles southeast of Strawberry Lake. On Ice Cracking Lakes east end, is Ice Cracking Lodge and Resort. Settlement of Ice Cracking Lake or Gip-pi-si-win Mig Ga-miiz (it means cracking ice lake in Ojibway), is located along that lakes northern shores. There are about 30 housing units in this community. Nearly all are located along La Doux Road. About a third are mobile homes. It is located in Round Lake Township which had a population of 157 in 2000 census. Indians make up 47% of that townships population but 50% when including Mexicans and mixed bloods. Population of Ice Cracking Lake, is probably between 60 and 90.
