Ojibwe Reservations and their Communities: Montana - Amazon Books

Kahkewistahaw, Saskatchewan

This small Ojibway community is located within Crooked Lakes Reserve central portion. Below are links to google earth photos of Kahkewistahaw. Cowessess is 8.4 miles or 13.5 kilometers northwest of Kahkewistahaw. It is situated on the plains. It's not as scenic as Cowessess. Many Montana Ojibway's relocated to CLR after they fled to the Cypress Hills of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Kahkewistahaw has a population of 502 according to 2016's census. However, Canada does not provide demographics for Reserve communities, so this Ojibway town's population is less than 502. Kahkewistahaw is somewhat of a disorganized settlement. Many housing units are located along roads north and south of Kahkewistahaw's many portion. Using google earth I counted around 80 to 90 or more housing units at Kahkewistahaw. Since CLR has an average household size of 3.4 persons per household, Kahkewistahaw possibly has a population of either 272 or 306. A few farms and a large area of woodlands, surround this Ojibway community.
