Kickapoo, Texas


This portion of Texas has been Ojibway land for a long time. Below are links to google earth photos of this Kickapoo Ojibway community. This Kickapoo Ojibway community is located 7.6 miles or 12.2 kilometers south of Eagle Pass, Texas. Kickapoo People are Ojibway and speak Ojibway. We know that from old 19th century books. This Ojibway community is supposedly a part of Rosita South which is a community that is 83% Mexican and 16% Ojibway. Rosita South has a population of 2,704 according to 2010's census. Ojibway People were living in Texas long before 1800. Lewis and Clark listed them with Pania People or Wichita People and described their main land area being along the western portion of the Red River of Mississippi River in Oklahoma and Texas. They were very much at home in the Texas Panhandle Region. However, these Ojibway People's land extended to Mexico. Since Ojibway People make up 16% of Rosita South's population, their community has a population of over 400. There may be near 100 or more housing units at this community. Average household size has to be near 4.0 persons per household. It's warm year round at this Texas location. However, it is not tropical or subtropical. They do have winters there. Palm trees grow there however. Northern Ojibway People would not like living at this Ojibway community near Eagle Pass. Hottest December maximum is 94 or 34 celcius. Hottest January maximum is 96 or 36 celcius. Hottest February maximum is 101 or 38 celcius. It gets hotter in this Texas location during winter months than any other location in the United States. They still have winters there. It's common for leaves to fall off trees because of occasional cold fronts. And it's not a desert. This Texas location receives over 20 inches of precipitation yearly.
