Little Grand Rapids


Located east of Lake Winnipeg in eastern Manitoba, the Chippewa Treaty 9 Reservation settlement of Little Grand Rapids has a population of 1,234 according to the 2011 census. The community has 215 housing units and an average household size of 5.9 persons per housing unit. Around 680 continue to speak Anishinabe at Little Grand Rapids. In Anishinabe, Little Grand Rapids would be pronounced as Ses Git-chay Ba-wi-tig. Little Grand Rapids is an isolated community which depends on planes and possibly a winter road for food and other supplies to be brought in.
