Little Turtle Lake, Minnesota


This is another small Leech Lake Reservation settlement. It is located just north of Little Turtle Lake. Housing units, which number around 12, are located along 72nd Street Northwest, 43rd Avenue Northwest, and Onigum Road Northwest. It is located within Turtle Lake Township which has a population of 683 according to a 2010 census. Much of Turtle Lake Township is located off Reservation. Indians make up 30% of that townships population but 35% when including Mexicans and mixed bloods. Population of Little Turtle Lake or Mac-ci-na-koos Ga-miiz, Minnesota is probably between 25 and 35. About three quarters of a mile east, is Turtle Lake which is a larger lake. A number of houses are located adjacent to Turtle Lake but they may be cottages.
