Rocky Boy Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana

Lopez

It is one of the many communities of the Black Hills Indian Reservation. Lopez is the largest Torres-Martinez community. It is 2.5 miles southeast of Martinez and 1.0 miles southwest of Torres. South Torres is 2.8 miles to the south. I have no idea what the demographics including population, of the Torres-Martinez or Black Hills Reservation community of Lopez is. Using google earth i counted over 200 housing units in Lopez. The population is probably between 750 and 1,000. I named this settlement Lopez after the name of a street there. According to the 2000 census, the population of Torres-Martinez was 4,146. Indians account for 195 of the population of Torres-Martinez. Mexicans account for 3,821 of the population, while whites account for 1,466. There is a race identification problem at Torres-Martinez. There are 864 housing units throughout Torres-Martinez. Climate conditions at Lopez are desert like. Summers are very hot, while winters are warm. Elevation of Lopez is -180 feet below sea level. Below are several google earth photos of Lopez.
