It is located about 30 miles north of the Yakima Reservation. Mattawa has a population of 4,437 according to the 2010 census. Native Americans including Hispanics, make up 96% of the city's population. Whites make up 3% of the population of Mattawa. The city has a total of 843 housing units which gives Mattawa an average household size of 5.4 persons per housing unit. The citizens of Mattawa are not doing well economically.
