Mississagi River, Mississagi Reserve
Located just north of Lake Huron, Mississagi River is a small Ojibway town east of Thessalon, Ontario. Below are links to several google earth photos of Mississagi River. It's a community of the Ojibwa Garden River Reserve. Population of this Ojibway community of Mississagi River is 411 according to 2016's census. They have a total of 185 housing units at Mississagi River, with 178 lived in. Average household size is 2.3 persons per household which is below normal for Ojibway communities. Ojibway Language is no longer spoken at Mississagi River. In Ojibway Language, Mississagi means "Entire River Mouth." During late 17th century, Shawnee Ojibwa's were sent to this location to wage war against Italian invaders. A village was established at the mouth of either Blind River or Mississagi River to commence to drive Italians east of Lake Ontario. They had already driven Italians from the region south of Lake Erie and south of Lake Ontario. By 1700, they had driven Italian invaders east of Lake Ontario. Afterwards, they colonized all of south Ontario. Ojibwa's of Michigan and Ontario are Shawnee Ojibwa's! Translation is Southern Ojibwa's! Ojibwa Word for all, entire, everything and whole is "Mi-si." Word for Mouth of River is "Sagi." River in Ojibway is "Sip-pi." Thus, Misi Sagi. More properly they were known as "All River Mouth People." In Ojibwa Language it's pronounced "Mis-si Sa-geague." The white city of Blind River is 2 or 3 miles southeast of Mississagi. Canada is trying to assimilate Ojibwa People!
