It is one of many communities which make up the Black Hills Indian Reservation. It is not to be confused with Campo, California which is 7.6 miles to the southwest. Mexico is 5.0 miles to the south. Campo is 1.5 miles directly to the south and west Campo is 6.8 miles to the southwest. There around 20 or so housing units in North Campo. The population of North Campo is probably between 60 and 80. The surrounding area is mountainous and has the appearance of a very lush desert. However, the climate conditions are not arid or desert like. The region receives around 15 inches of precipitation a year. You'll notice in the google earth photos the rocky terrain. Elevation is 3,592 feet about sea level.
