Pemmican, Leech Lake Reservation
It is located 4.5 miles south of Portage and 9.5 miles southwest of Cass Lake. It covers an area of about 0.35 sq. mi. It is located in Hart Lake Township, Hubbard County, Minnesota which had a population of 466 according to the 2000 census. Indians make up 14% of the townships population but 16% when including Mexicans and mixed bloods. Nearly all of Hart Lake Township, Hubbard County, Minnesota is located off Reservation. Since the settlement is not a cdp, city, town, or village i thought i name it after a street some of the housing units are located along. That is Pemmican Drive. There are over 20 housing units in Pemmican. It has an elevation of 1,387 feet above sea level. I don't know the average household size but Chippewa settlements tend to have average household sizes higher than that of the whites. It could be between 4.0 and 5.0 persons per housing unit. The population of Pemmican is likely between 80 and 100. Pemmican is a rather new Leech Lake Reservation settlement. It does not show up in google earths historical imagery until 2003. It was not around in 1991. Below are a few google earth pictures of Pemmican, Leech Lake Reservation.
