Rankin Location, Ontario

It's one of four communities of Batchewana Reserve which is located ajacent to and near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Below are links to google earth photos of Rankin Location. Canada has not reported population for Batchewana since 2006. During 2006's census, they reported that Rankin Location had an on-Reserve population of 566. Part of that population lives a few miles north at another Ojibway community a few miles from Sault Ste. Marie along Old Garden River Road. Goulais Bay is supposedly a part of this Reserve yet most people that live there are probably white. Obadjiwan is a very small Ojibway community located at Batchewana Bay. Canada has not dealt with Batchewana Ojibway's in an honorable manner. 1859's Pennyfather Treaty is not legitimate. Rankin Location is situated adjacent to Manitou Park which is a Sault Ste. Marie suburb. It has to be relocated to avoid assimilation. There are 213 housing units, with 206 lived. Average household size is 2.7 persons per household. Ojibway Language is no longer spoken at Rankin Location.
