This White Earth Reservation settlement is located about a half a mile east of Mahnomen or in a wrong place. It was an idiotic decision of White Earth Reservation leaders to establish a town next to Mahnomen which is a white city. Below are links to google earth photos of this small Ojibway town. Riverland covers 0.167 sq. mi. or 0.4 sq. km. Riverland would be pronounced as Sip-pi Gar in Ojibway. Word for land or landing in Ojibway Language, is "gabewin." Riverland is a new settlement. It was not around in 1991. It doesen't show up in google earth historical imagery until 2006. This small cdp (Census Designated Place) has a population of 276 according to 2010's census. Native Americans account for 90.6% of this cdp's population. Whites 4.3%. Blacks 0.2%. Mexican's 2.2%. Mixed bloods 4.3%. Riverland has 74 housing units with 72 lived in. Average household size of Riverland is 3.8 persons per housing unit. Elevation is 1,214 feet above sea level. Riverland or Sip-pi Gar, is located in a wrong place. They should have selected a site far from whites. Somewhere between Rice Lake and Naytahwaush would have been wiser.
