Shoal Lake 40, Shoal Lake First Nation
Located in the western portion of northwestern Ontario, is the Chippewa settlement of Shoal Lake 40, which is one of three Reserves which makes up the Shoal Lake First Nation. Latest population estimate (2006) puts the population of shoal lake 40 at 105. There are 42 housing units in the small settlement, of which 31 are occupied. That gives the settlement a 3.5 persons per housing unit average, which is about normal for Chippewa settlements. The Anishinabe language is doing good at this Chippewa settlement with at least 45 people still speaking Anishinabe. All people in this settlement are Indian.
