Wabowden, Manitoba


It is located some 72 miles north of Lake Winnipeg. The Chippewa community of Wabowden, Manitoba has a population of 550 according to the 2011 census. It has increased by 52 since the 2006 census. Wabowden has 226 housing units with 195 occupied. The average household size is 2.8 persons per housing unit which means Wabowden, Manitoba has a significant white population. Around 25 of the residents still speak the Cree dialect of the Anishinabe language. The Indians account for possibly half of the population of Wabowden or around 200 to 225. The Chippewa settlement is located along the southern shores of Bowden Lake. Wabowden covers 31.78 sq. km., or 12.3 sq. mi.
