War Lake (Ilford)


Located in northeastern Manitoba about 147 miles north of Island Lake and 137 miles southeast of Hudson Bay, the Chippewa Treaty 9 Reservation settlement of War Lake which is also known as Ilford, has a population of 95 according to the 2011 census. The community has 35 housing units and an average household size of 2.9 persons per housing unit. Around 40 continue to speak Anishinabe at War Lake. In Anishinabe, War Lake would be pronounced as Mi-ga-so-win Za-ga-i-gan. Below is a link to a picture of the Chippewa Treaty 9 Reservation settlement of War Lake.
