West Bay, West Bay Reserve
Another Ojibwa community located on Manitoulin Island (aka Insects Island) is West Bay. It's also known as M'Chigeeng. According to 2021's census, West Bay has a population of 926. During 2016's census it's population was 884. This Ojibwa community has a mixed blood population that's predominantly white. There are 405 housing units at West Bay. Average household size is 2.3 persons per household which indicates this community does have a mixed blood population that is predominantly white. Supposedly 185 people speak Ojibwa at West Bay. That's about 1 in 5 people speaking Ojibwa at West Bay. Wikwemikong has a lower percentage of it's residents speaking Ojibwa than West Bay. It's about 1 in 6 speaking Ojibwa at Wikwemikong.
