West Fort Yates, Standing Rock-Cheyenne River Reservation

It is located about 1 mile to the west of the beautiful Anishinabe-Dakota city of Fort Yates. The population of West Fort Yates is included with that of Fort Yates population which is 1,961 according to either the 2000 census or 2010 census. It is located in Sioux County, North Dakota. Using google earth i counted about 200 housing units in West Fort Yates. Native Americans make up 98% of the population. West Fort Yates obviously has more Dakotas than Anishinabek. This city is doing very well economically and it shows. Only 14% of the city's population live below the poverty line. For a city that is nearly 100% Native American, it is an exception, as is Eagle Butte which is located in the Cheyenne River District. However, West Fort Yates and Fort Yates stand out. The population may actually be correct. Fort Yates supposedly has an average household size of 2.9 persons per housing unit. If West Fort Yates has the same household average size which it probably does, the city's population is around 600. Elevation is 1,625 feet above sea level. Zip code is 58538. Below are several links to photohraphs of the beautiful Anishinabe-Dakota city of West Fort Yates, Standing Rock-Cheyenne River Reservation.
