Weyakwin, Misipawistik Ojibwa Reserve
Located northwest of Montreal Lake is Weyakwin which is actually considered a part of Montreal Lake community. Below are several links to google earth photos of the Ojibwa village of Weyakwin which is located at Saskatchewan. It's a Misipawistik Ojibwa Reserve community. Using google earth, I learned that the small settlement has no paved streets. The small settlement may not have any paved streets but it is still a small attractive settlement. The total population of the tiny settlement is 100 according to 2021's census. 2006's census reported that Weyakwin had a population of 99. 2001's census reported the population of Weyakwin to be 183. If Weyakwin's population decrease is correct, it's a dying community. There are 30 dwellings at Weyakwin. Average household size is 3.3 persons per household. Google earth road views are from September 2009. Looking at this small Ojibwa village using google earth road views from September 2009, I counted around 34 or 35 houses lived in. Weyakwin's population in 2009 was obviously near 110 and 120. Some of the housing units are boarded up. Others are vacant. I counted those houses with tv antennas, cars and satellite dishes. For some reason the population of Weyakwin has declined since 2001. The small village is isolated yet does have road access to south Saskatchewan. Employment is probably scarce. Large Lake Montreal is 3.2 miles or 5.2 kilometers east of Weyakwin. Only 10% of the population of Weyakwin speaks Ojibwa. That be Corrupted Ojibwa or Cree. Lewis and Clark named Cree Language Corrupted Ojibwa. This Ojibwa village is surrounded by a lush forest. Most people living there don't want to leave their community.
