Rocky Boy Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana

Winnie Dam, Minnesota

It is a tiny LLR settlement located near Lake Winnibigoshish northeastern shores. Housing units, which number up to 8, are located along County Road 9, for about one mile before reaching Little Winnie Resort. Several other resorts are located in that general region. It is located within Bowstring Lake Unorganized Territory which has a population of 1,166 according to a 2010 census. 61% of this unorganized territories population is Indian but 65% when including Mexicans and mixed bloods. About half of Bowstring Lake Unorganized Territory's area is within Leech Lake Reservation. Population is probably between 15 and 30. Elevation is 1,315 feet above sea level. Residents find employment at nearby resorts. However, discrimination is probably a part of life. Resort owners are non Indian and some may practice discrimination. Below are several google earth photos of Winnie Dam, Minnesota and links to other Leech Lake Reservation communities.
