Witchekan Lake


Located in north central Saskatchewan about 40 miles northeast of the Jackfish Lake Saulteaux who they were once a part of, the Chippewa Treaty 9 Reservation settlement of Witchekan Lake has a population of 466 according to the 2011 census. The community has 70 housing units and an average household size of 6.5 persons per housing unit. Around 200 continue to speak Anishinabe at Witchekan Lake. In Anishinabe, Witchekan Lake would be pronounced as Witchekan Za-ga-i-gan. Below is a link to a picture of the Chippewa Treaty 9 Reservation settlement of Witchekan Lake.
