Big Island Lake First Nation

Located about 190 miles northwest of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, near where Cold Lake is situated (cold lake lies partially in Alberta and partially in Saskatchewan) is the Anishinabe big island lake first nation. There is only one Reserve which makes up this First Nation. It covers an area of 4,700 total hectares or 11,614 total acres. Total population is 1,017, with most (701) living on the one reserve, while 192 live off, and 122 live on other reserves, and 2 live on crown land. Many can trace their origins back to Montana, where they originally lived but were driven out by the whites, after the 1868-1886 war. Ogimak Big Bear or Sitting Bull led them up to Canada.
