Fort Chipewyan First Nation
Located about 85 miles from the Northwest Territories and along the southwestern shores of huge Lake Athabasca, the Chippewan (Chipewyan) and Anishinabe fort chipewyan first nation, is a rather interesting place because of its close proximity to year round paved roads but yet is not connected, and because apparently most of the Chipewyan's and Anishinabek do not live on the Reserves set aside for them, which there are eight in all. The total area of their First Nation is 34,764 hectares or 85,903 acres. The First Nation's population is 898 but most (670) live off-reserve. Around 200 live on crown land or out in the wilds where they probably still fish, hunt, and trap for a living. The Chippewan (Chipewyan) are really Anishinabek who absorbed a great many non Algonquian Indians amongst them.
