Fort McMurray First Nation


Located in northeastern Alberta, not too far from Saskatchewan, is the Chippewan (Chipewyan) and Anishinabe fort mcmurray first nation. There are four Reserves which make up this First Nation. They are Clearwater 175, Gregoire Lake 176, Gregoire Lake 176A, Gregoire Lake 176B. Total area is 3,231 hectares or 7,984 acres. Total population is 616, with most (352) living off-reserve. Around 256 live on-reserve, while 7 live on other Indian Reserves, and 1 lives on crown land. The Chippewan (Chipewyan) are really Anishinabek who absorbed a great many non Algonquian Indians amongst them.
