Hay River First Nation

It is the only Indian Reserve in the Northwest Territories. It covers 134 sq. km. or 52 sq. mi. There is an Anishinabe population living amongst these Athabascan people known as the hay river dene. There has to because Anishinabe is one of the several Native American languages which are official languages in the Northwest Territories. The population of the Reserve is supposedly 309. To learn why there is in fact a Anishinabe population living throughout what is now the Northwest Territories click here. The fact is the Anishinabek arrived to the Delta of the McKenzie River after the whites did. The Seven Fires Prophecy led them to invade that region in order to attempt to stop the white invasion into that region. The whites knew even before they discovered the America's that in eastern Asia, there had to be a passage to the America's. They knew that was where the Mongols came from. In the process the Russians discovered Alaska in the late 16th century. Soon after, the whites who invaded eastern North America, became infatuated with discovering the Northwest Passage. That occurred in the late 18th century.

However, they were too late in preventing the Freemasons from establishing several forts in what is now the Northwest Territories. From the Northwest Territories the Freemasons established several forts in Alberta in the 1780s and 1790s. The Freemasons probably established their first fort in Alberta in 1751 near either Calgary or Rocky Mountain House. After doing so the Anishinabek soon arrived to the location of that new white fort to keep a carefull watch on the whites in that fort. The Anishinabek could care less about trading with the whites. They knew what their future foretold and obviously wanted to stop that future from occurring. Below is a list of Native American settlements in the Northwest Territories. Yes, the Anishinabek do live throughout the Northwest Territories.
