Chippewa Indians Little Black River First Nation & History

This reserve or band of the chippewa indians, is another located just east of lake winnipeg. The first nation has year round road access to the white communities to their south. Sooner or later, their citizens will feel the full horrible effects of contact with white culture. Many of the citizens from the black river first nation band, still hunt, fish, trap, and harvest wild rice. Their history is similar to that of the other chippewa's just east of lake winnipeg. Their total enrolled population is 977, with 701 living on reserve. Their first nation covers 809 hectares or 1,999 acres. However, their real reserve is the 10,000s of sq. mi. surrounding them.
