Mosakahiken First Nation
Located in east-central Manitoba, near Cedar Lake, is the Anishinabe mosakahiken first nation. In history, the Anishinabek may have been led to this region by ogima (chief) Kinistin in the 1860s, 1870s, or 1880s. Or the Anishinabek forced their way into this region of Manitoba in the late 17th century or sometime during the 18th century. They had to fight the Athabascans and Dakotas who were supplied with guns and ammunition by the Freemasons who were, of course, the English and French. There are 5 Reserve which make up this first nation. They cover an area of 2,313 total hectares or 5,715 total acres. Total population is 1,863, with most (1,370) living on reserve, while 472 live off reserve, and 16 live on other reserves, and 5 live on crown land.
