Mosquito First Nation


Located about 30 kilometers or 18 miles south of Battleford, Saskatchewan, is the Anishinabe and Nakoda mosquito first nation. There are four Reserves which make up this First Nation. They cover an area of 16,193 hectares or 40,013 total acres. Total population is 1,227, with most (636) living on-reserve, while 537 live off-reserve, and 53 live on other reserves, and 1 lives on crown land. Many can trace their origins back to Montana, where they originally lived but were driven out by the whites, after the 1868-1886 war. Ogimak Big Bear or Sitting Bull, led them up to Canada.
