Chippewa Indians Northwest Angle NO 37 First Nation & History

This band of chippewa indians live around lake of the woods, in ontario and manitoba. Their history in that region probably commenced about 1,000 years ago, but it wasn't until the late 17th century when they settled there. Before they settled in that region, the nakota people lived there. Though not very many white communities exist in that region, they do have year round road access to those nearby white communities, and they are paying for it. Almost half the band population lives in white communities. The total enrolled northwest angle no 37 reserve population is 339, with 165 living off reserve. Their first nation covers 5,689 hectares or 14,058 acres. There are reserves in all, that make up this first nation of chippewa's.
