Sawridge First Nation

Located about 220 miles due north of Edmonton, Alberta, and not far from the Northwest Territories, is the Anishinabe Sawridge Band. There are two Reserves which make up this band. They cover an area of 2,143 hectares or 5,295 total acres. Total population is 367, with most (330) living away from the reserves, while 30 live on-reserve. Many can trace their origins back to Montana, where they originally lived but were driven out by the whites, after the 1868-1886 war. Ogimak Big Bear or Sitting Bull, led them up to Canada.
