Sayisi Dene First Nation

Once located in far northeastern Manitoba, at Churchill, Manitoba, which is situated next to Hudson Bay, is the Chipewyan and Chippewa sayisi dene first nation. In history, these Chippewa's probably invaded this region of Manitoba in either the late 17th century, or the early 18th century, to defend Indian land from the invading Freemasons who were, of course, the English and French. After agreeing to a treaty with Canada, the Chipewyan and Chippewa's first settled at Churchill but in the late 1960s, they became agitated and moved on their own free will to the Tadoule Lake region of far northern Manitoba. Though white historians insist that no Chippewa's lived with the Chipewyan and even Inuit at Churchill, they are wrong. This first nation is also known as the churchill 1 indian reserve. Total area covered by this Reserve is 230 hectares or 568 total acres. Total population is 330.
