Swan River First Nation
Located in central Alberta, about 35 to 40 miles west of Slave Lake, Alberta, is the Anishinabe swan river first nation. There are two Reserves which make up this First Nation. They cover an area of 4,294 total hectares or 10,610 total acres. Total population is 1,051, with most (714) living away from the Reserves, while 337 live on-reserve. Many can trace their origins back to Montana, where they originally lived but were driven out by the whites, after the 1868-1886 war. Ogimak Big Bear or Sitting Bull, led them up to Canada.
