July 26, 1865 Battle at Platte Bridge Station

On that same day that Platte Bridge Battle and Custard Wagon Train Fight were fought (that be Wednesday July 26, 1865), another small battle was fought very near Platte Bridge Station. All three battles were a part of Mullan Road War. A list of Mullan Road War battles is above. After learning that Anishinabe Soldiers had cut a telegraph line near Platte Bridge Station, Lieutenant George M. Walker was instructed to lead 15 American Soldiers out of their military post to repair that telegraph line. Another smaller force of white soldiers led by Captain Lybe, was instructed to follow behind Walkers force to protect them. Lybe warned Walkers force about a quick approach of Anishinabe Soldiers but it wasn't in time. A battle followed in which 6 white soldiers were killed and another 9 were wounded. Anishinabe casualties were probably around 5 killed and 10 wounded. Battle at Platt Bridge Station was won by Anishinabe Soldiers. Historians estimate that as many as 3,000 brave Anishinabe Soldiers were stationed near Platte Bridge Station. They were stationed there to attempt to stop American Soldiers from invading southeast Montana. In those 3 battles that occurred on July 26, 1865, at least 33 white soldiers were killed and another 17 were wounded. Anishinabe casualties were much higher.
