February 3, 1779 Battle of Fort Beaufort
This early 1779 battle was fought at Port Royal Island, South Carolina on February 3, 1779. It's location was strategic. Whites sending in supplies to that location or possibly Indians and Blacks using that location to protect inland areas from whites sending weapons of war and food to what few whites lived in that location. Battle of Beaufort was a minor battle involving not more than 600 total white soldiers and an unknown number of Ojibway Soldiers who relied heavily on their ancient weapons (bows and arrows) and gunpowder they took from white military forces they defeated in battle. Ojibway Soldiers won this battle founght in South Carolina about 30 miles northeast of Savannah, Georgia. White casualties were minimal. About 72 captured, killed or wounded. By early 1779, this war was turning in favor of whites. However, Ojibway Soldiers were dominating down south. Up north, they were having great difficulties as a result of a larger white population.
