August 5, 1812 Battle of Brownstown
This battle was fought where Gibraltar, Michigan is now located. After ceding much of their Ohio land, the Three Fires Confederation moved their main meeting location of the Ohio and southern Michigan region, to where present day Gibraltar is situated. Michigan was one of the primary battlegrounds of the 1811-1815 War. A force of 225 white soldiers under the command of Major Thomas Van Horne, were on a mission to pick supplies to bring to Fort Detroit, when they were suddenly ambushed by scores of brave Anishinabe Soldiers. About all Major Van Horne could do was call for a retreat which was quickly carried out. However, the whites endured heavy casualties during the ambush. Of the 100 total white casualties 18 were killed, 12 were wounded and 70 were probably captured then probably killed later on or enslaved by the prophesy weary Anishinabek.
