November 11, 1813 Battle of Crysler's Farm

This battle was fought near where present day Cornwall, Ontario is located which is adjacent to New York State. This battle was a part of the whites plans for defeating the Ojibway's then invading southern Ontario. In all, a force of 12,900 white soldiers were raised up to participate in the military expedition, but only 8,900 actually fought or were stationed in close vicinity of the battle. When the battle started on the morning of November 11, 1813, it was cold and raining. The Ojibway Soldiers eventually started to dominate the more numerous white soldiers as the battle dragged on. By about 4:00 in the afternoon, white soldiers had started a retreat from the battle they were losing. White casualties in the major battle were 124 killed, 385 wounded and 100 captured by Ojibway Soldiers then probably killed later on or enslaved. Whites were having great difficulties forcing their way into southern Ontario.
