May 20, 1865 Battle of Deer Creek Station


While their so called Civil War had ended, American's were focusing more of their attention on Ojibway People of Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming. This battle was one of many fought in that region. Battle of Deer Creek Station was a part of Mullan Road War. A list of Mullan Road War battles is above. This battle occurred near Platte Bridge Station which was used by whites to station their soldiers. About 30 miles east of Platte Bridge Station, white invaders had also established another illegal military post known as Deer Creek Station. Battle of Deer Creek Station was fought on Saturday May 20, 1865 and was actually 2 different battles fought about same time in vicinity of that unwanted white military post known as Deer Creek Station. In that first battle, about 25 Ojibway Soldiers battled a force of only 4 white soldiers and lost as a result of superior weapons of their white enemy. Ojibway casualties were 2 killed and 4 wounded. At that other battle, a force of 50 Ojibway Soldiers attacked a camp of 7 American Soldiers and were capable of stealing 26 of their horses. However, they lost 3 soldiers killed and 5 wounded, while American Soldiers only had 1 killed. Location of these battles is near Glenrock, Wyoming which is 20 or so miles east of Casper, Wyoming.
