June 3, 1865 Battle of Dry Creek

Platte Bridge Station was not an only military post whites used near Casper, Wyoming. They had another of their camps named Camp Dodge about 7 miles off younder from Platte Bridge Station. On Saturday June 3, 1865 a small force of only 10 Anishinabe Soldiers kicked up some dust at Platte Bridge Station to entice American Soldiers to come out and have a bad time. That led to 20 white soldiers led by Lieutenant Colonel Preston B. Plumb, to go a searching for them. About 10 each came from Camp Dodge and Platte Bridge Station. It did not take them whites long to realize those 10 Anishinabe Soldiers were a decoy. Not long after they left to go a searching, a force of 60 Anishinabe Soldiers joined their 10 fellow soldiers and launched an assault on those 20 American Soldiers. Within a short time, another 20 white soldiers arrived to support their 20 comrades battling 70 or so Ojibway Soldiers. Anishinabe military commanders instructed their brave soldiers to retreat. White casualties were 2 killed. Anishinabe casualties were 1 killed and 5 wounded in this insignificant battle.
