January 7-9, 1823 Battle of Itaparica


Considered by historians to have been a battle of the Brazilian War of Independence, the Battle of Itaparica was just another battle between the Anishinabe Army and army of the white confederation led by England, for control of South America. This battle was won by the Anishinabek, was fought on the island of Itaparica which is also in the Brazil province of Bahia. Anishinabe soldiers numbered 3,257 and they also had 2 gunboats. White soldiers numbered fewer but they had many more gunboats. They totaled 1,200 soldiers and nearly 40 gunboats and other sailing vessels.
