November 20, 1812 Battle of Lacolle Mills

This battle was fought near where present day Champlain, Ontario is (it's a few miles west of Montreal) situated. Goal of Ojibway Soldiers was to get their hands on the white villages supplies of weapons and ammunition. A force of 1,130 white soldiers were stationed at Champlain. Early on the morning of November 20, 1812 a large force of brave Ojibway Soldiers had forced their way in to the village and captured the Lacolle Mills blockhouse. However, in the dark, Ojibway Soldiers were attacked by white soldiers and in their frenzy to defend themselves, they accidentally fired upon each other. The white soldiers eventually learned the blunder the Anishinabe Soldiers had endured, then launched a counterattack which drove the Anishinabe Soldiers from the scene. However, they probably did capture significant amounts of weapons and ammunition. The Ojibway Soldiers probably endured around 5 to 10 casualties during the blunder.
