Ojibway Soldiers were on patrol and found a group of whites who were stationed at Fort Kearny, out cutting wood and attacked them. Another force of whites were nearby to back them up. In Battle of Peno Creek, those white tree cutters were forced to flee back Fort Phil Kearny. Anishinabe Soldiers killed two American Soldiers and wounded another 5. Anishinabe casualties were 10 killed and an unknown number wounded. Captain Fetterman fought in this battle. He had little respect for Indians. He knew whites had superior weapons and thought Indians could be easily be defeated as a result of their superior weapons.
