March 23, 1758 Battle of Snowshoes
On March 23, 1758 a force of some 181 white soldiers led by Robert Rogers (they were known as Rogers Rangers), got into a battle with a force of Ojibway Soldiers and were defeated by them. Rogers was one of them lucky ones and managed to survive that battle. He, and at least 50 or more of his soldiers, somehow escaped certain death at the hands of enraged Ojibway Soldiers. Around 144 whites soldiers were killed in that battle. Battle of Snowshoes was a part of Pontiac's War. A list of Battles of Pontiac's War is above. Battle of Snowshoes was fought near Lake George, New York. Lake Champlain is east of Lake George by a mile.
