Custard Wagon Train Fight July 26, 1865

On Wednesday July 26, 1865 white invaders were still trying to force their way into southeast Montana by using wagon trains. Their destination was Platte Bridge Station near Casper, Wyoming. Custard Wagon Train Fight was a part of Mullan Road War. A list of Mullan Road War Battles is above. Before this battle was fought, Anishinabe Soldiers had forced a few white soldiers from Platte Bridge Station back inside Platte Bridge Station. Soon after that was accomplished, they learned about an approach of a small wagon train led by American Soldiers led by Sgt. Amos J. Custard. They numbered 25 in all. On July 26, they attacked those white invaders trying to reach Platte Bridge Station. They forced them to corral their wagons for protection. This battle would not turn out as battles at Haystack Battle and Wagon Box Fight. According to historians, 1,000s of Anishinabe Soldiers were laying siege to Platte Bridge Station which means a large force of Ojibway Soldiers were stationed in that region, to protect Anishinabe land to their north. After Ojibway Soldiers commenced their assault, they quickly killed all 20 white soldiers. It was fought two days before Battle of Fort Rice and nearly coincided with Battle of Platte Bridge Station. Ojibway casualties were 12 killed and 18 wounded.
