Killough Massacre
This October 5, 1838 massacre, is considered by historians to have been the last Anishinabe raid on whites of east Texas. On October 5, 1838, a force of Anishinabe Soldiers attacked some 21 white settlers near what is now Jacksonville, Texas. They killed 6 of the white invaders and captured 8 women and children. Another 7 white settlers escaped and managed to reach Fort Lacy.
