January 23, 1813 River Raisin Massacre

This event was an act of retaliation that prophecy weary Ojibway's obviously felt that they had to do. After white soldiers surrendered during the second Battle of Frenchtown, some 200 wounded American Soldiers were left to fend for themselves. Prophecy weary (they knew what their future foretold) Ojibway Soldiers were not about to let an opportunity to kill their greedy white brethren slip away. They ordered around half the 200 wounded American Soldiers out of the buildings they were in, then torched the buildings holding the other 100, killing them. Afterwards, they forced the other 100 wounded American Soldiers on a forced march, killing another 80 of them. The total white casualties of this massacre and the Battle of Frenchtown, were near 600.
