Goshute Reservation

This Ute (they are Shoshone Ojibwa's) Ojibwa Reservation known as Goshute Reservation, is located in Nevada and Utah. Below is a map of their Reservation and a 1914 news article about chief Rocky Boy negotiating to have new Ojibwa Reservations created. Their history is one that has been written for them by whites which means you must use caution for we know how white leaders are deceitful. This Reservation dates back to October 12, 1863's Treaty. It wasn't created with that 1863 treaty yet is within that treaty's land area. It is clearly written in October 12, 1863's Treaty, that American leaders took their land without a formal purchase. That's an indicator Ojibwa leaders refused to ratify October 12, 1863's Treaty. Why? They wanted large Reservations! Goshute Reservation is quite isolated, as is much of the Great Basin. We date Goshute Reservations creation to January 14, 1902. Chief Rocky Boy sent a letter to President Roosevelt on January 14, 1902, telling him chief Rocky Boy was leader of landless Ojibwa's in various States in the United States, in need of Reservations. They denied his request for Reservations yet accepted his proposal to allow his Ojibwa Subjects to settle on land not surveyed (he meant unallotted Reservation land) in many locations in the United States.

In 1914, the United States coerced Ojibwa People into accepting a very small Reservation now known as Goshute Reservation at Nevada and Utah. Chief Rocky Boy sent letter to President Wilson in 1914, telling President Wilson chief Rocky Boy's Ojibwa Subjects would stay out of the European Conflict. He meant Mexico's Civil War. Chief Rocky Boy was negotiating with Secretary of the Interior Lane, about securing land for chief Rocky Boy's Ojibwa Subjects. Gushute Reservation is one of the new Ojibwa Reservations he was granted with Secretary Lane's help. Goshute Reservation covers 177 sq. mi. or 458.4 sq. km. Population of Goshute Reservation is over 400. This Reservation is one of only a few Reservations granted to chief Rocky Boy. It's probably home to Shoshone Ojibwa's native to that location who were considered landless or also includes Montana Ojibwa's Relocated to GR to live with them. Montana Ojibwa's are much taller than Ojibwa's of the Great Basin. Their greater height was do to food supply which was largely buffalo. Gushute Reservation is arid or desert like, with tall mountains over 12,000 feet in elevation, on it's east. There's only one community within Gushute Reservation. I don't know it's name. There are no paved highways going to their Goshute Reservations. It's very isolated.
