Devils Lake Indian Reservation

One of several Reservations in the State of North Dakota, the devils lake indian reservation is large and has a large population which probably has an equal or larger non Indian population. No Lakota people lived in this region of North Dakota during the 1860s. The land belonged to the powerful and huge Pembina Empire (the Iron Confederation), and the reservation is part of the huge Trurtle Mountain Reservation. The population is a mixture of Algonquian and Siouan. The Siouan are the Assiniboine and the Arickara, Hidatsa and Mandan. The Algonquians are the Chippewa and Cree. Both the CHippewa and Cree were forced to lose their tribal identities.
